Spiritual Connectedness Conference
In 2005, on
the 10th Anniversary of the opening of Cittamani, we decided
to hold a Spirituality Conference, entitled Spiritual
Connectedness: The Essence of Hospice Care. This reflective
and practical-oriented day was held at and sponsored by The
University of the Sunshine Coast . It was such a success that
we decided to do it again in November 2006. This time, our
theme was Spiritual Connectedness: Sustaining Hope and
Compassion. Approximately 100 people came and reported their
enjoyment of it, and how helpful it had been.
"I really enjoyed listening to others, both speakers and fellow attendees, as they attempted to communicate their truth. I was touched by many issues and conversations that are a daily part of palliative care"
"Everything was great - thank you. It was very inspiring and encouraging for my nursing practice"
Spirituality, we believe, is a central part of the dying process and grieving. We as professional and non-professional caregivers need to reflect on our understandings of spirituality and how we can facilitate others expressions of their spirituality, and their spiritual needs.
"I know that the spiritual work is of paramount importance and while it goes hand in hand all the time with our medical work, it is the only lasting help that we can give to our people".Dame Cecily Saunders, 1962
On November 28th 2008 we held our conference, the theme of
Spiritual Connectedness: Nurturing You
being the focus. On this day we reflected on how we care for our own spirit
in our daily work and personal lives. The speakers on
the day were Bruce Rumbold, who was so well received at our
first conference and Ven. Chonyi, a Buddhist nun.
